The Predictable Into Surprise

Everything is now a surprise
The everyday stuff becomes extra nice
The sunrise, the sunset
Even the sound of running water from the faucet
The rhythm of the rain
The white snow sticking on the window pane
The music coming from the car radio
The smiles on faces that are aglow
The birds' tweeting sounds
The aroma of the brewing coffee grounds
The sleepy good morning greet
The tired good night even become treats
The ordinary the mundane
Do not drive me insane
Once I became grateful and aware of them
Though they are the same old same
They are now gifts to behold
Giving me joy a hundred fold.

The Power of Unknowing

There is funny ad for a fast food place featuring a couple portrayed by two dogs. Their conversation or argument centers on what each think the other is ordering. Then the word assume is flashed on the screen and then a play on that word ensues between the couple. Each argues that the other thinks they know or assuming too much about what the other likes to order or not and making an a.. of themselves.

This scenario I think is a concrete example of the danger of knowing. How incapacitating it can be in our relationships. We are sometimes afraid to assertively ask for something for example since we are paralyzed by what we think how the person would react.  This is so true when we need to discuss a touchy matter. The knowing or assuming is an impediment to assertiveness and issues are left unresolved. Ignorance or unknowing would have been bliss as the saying goes.

Are we assuming too much? Or should we tap on the power of unknowing?
