The child saw
the thou
not the it
and shook the hands
of the homeless man.
Note: This haiku was inspired by a story told to me by my friend, Joanne. Their family which included her grandson, Michael, and his parents were crossing the Clemente Bridge in Pittsburgh on their way to a Pirates baseball game when they saw a group of homeless persons. Michael's Dad coming from a small town was not used to the situation and felt uncomfortable but not Michael who happens to be a special child. He without being afraid at all approached a homeless man and shook his hand.
More about the relational I and Thou concept by Martin Buber can be read in this wonderfully written piece.
Lovely. Thank you for sharing.
